Music is a universal conversation between the soul and sound. It transcends boundaries, connects emotions, and allows the artist to explore an infinite world of expressions.
Today, I’m taking you to a corner of my own musical world, where the violin, scat jazz, and voice come together to create something truly special…
The Role of Voice in My Musical Journey
My relationship with music has always been a journey of discovery. While studying at the conservatory as a classical violinist, I also took lyrical singing lessons. This experience opened a door to a deep understanding of the voice and vocal techniques.
But for me, the real adventure began when I felt the desire to explore violin improvisation. To achieve this, I had to refine my musical ear, and I started associating the voice with the violin. Gradually, I ventured into the complex world of scat as a part of my jazz improvisation learning…
Scat Jazz and Discovering My Voice
My love for improvisation with the voice led me to take jazz singing lessons. At the beginning, my lyrical vocal technique didn’t quite align with the jazz style, but over time, I discovered my chest voice—a revelation that changed how I approached singing.
I also learned the lyrics to some jazz standards. This new skill allowed me to sing on stage, in jams, and in concerts, creating an even deeper connection between the voice and the violin. Both became tools for storytelling through improvisation, a way to explore creativity through a unique sonic fusion.
Encouragement from Didier Lockwood and Ninine Garcia
During a class at his school, Didier Lockwood heard me combine scat and the violin, a blend that excited him. He saw the potential of this fusion and encouraged me to continue working this way on my improvisations. According to him, it was a means to tell a better musical story while playing. His support has been a constant source of inspiration.
Another pivotal moment occurred during an encounter with guitarist Ninine Garcia. He loved my live vocal and violin fusion and invited me to share the stage with him. At each concert, he encouraged me to scat and play at the same time. He also pushed me to trust my voice, regardless of any criticism.
A memorable anecdote: I had stopped singing for a month after receiving negative comments from a bartender. I shared this experience with Ninine, and he was almost angry! He pushed me to start singing again, asking me to trust his judgment rather than random critiques. His support was a key element in developing this unique vocal and instrumental fusion.
The video of the lesson where I show you how to merge scat and violin
To illustrate what I’m sharing with you, I invite you to watch the video below. This video isn’t just a demonstration; it’s a real lesson in action. It allows you to get a closer look at the techniques I’ve developed throughout my musical journey. You’ll discover how to merge the voice and the violin, how to play and sing at the same time, and how to create a unique musical fusion.
The Fusion of Classical Music and Jazz with the Voice
In my latest album, “Souffle,” in collaboration with Giovanni Mirabassi, the voice takes a central role. I’ve successfully fused my classical origins with my love for jazz. This musical marriage has given birth to compositions where the violin and voice converse and enrich each other.

New Video: Real-Time Fusion of Voice and Violin
In addition to this exploration of the fusion between scat, voice, and violin that I’ve just shared, I’d like to introduce you to my latest video. It takes you right into the heart of a spontaneous jam session from this summer at the Grappelli-Django Camp… During this musical experience, there was a moment when I felt my inspiration on the violin was dwindling. It was at that precise moment that I decided to add scat to my improvisation, blending my voice with my violin. Magic happened, my inspiration was rekindled, and my imagination soared like never before. This video is a living testament to the boundless creativity that the voice can offer.
