Today I wanted to publish a video where I show you how to play 3 typical ending licks that are very useful for improvising in gypsy jazz!
These are licks that you can use in all songs. On the video I play them in G Major, a key very used in many gypsy jazz pieces. However, you can transpose them and practice them in all major and minor keys, in order to be able to use them on all gypsy jazz standards!
Beginning and end of a piece of gypsy jazz
It often happens that we are a little hesitant at the end of a piece of jazz manouche. It is often said that the most important parts of a song are the beginning and the end! It is true that a hesitant end is a bit of a shame, especially in the gypsy jazz which is very virtuosic and fast music! Learning these typical phrases will help you get back on your feet in any end-of-song situation.
I wrote it all down on a downloadable score at the bottom of this article. I suggest you learn these phrases by heart so you can handle any situation.
Variations of gypsy jazz phrases
In the video I offer you variations on these typical jazz manouche phrases. The idea is really to develop them in your own way and to invent your own variants! There are also other ending phrases for jazz and gypsy jazz pieces; do not hesitate to transcribe them and learn them!
Here is the video with the 3 typical ending phrases in gypsy jazz:

Violin swing course in Aveyron
I’ll take advantage of this article to make a final reminder of the internship for the month of July in Aveyron.
It will be from July 21 to 24 at La Fouillade, in a beautiful area in the middle of nature! Ideal environment to work…
The course is open to people who have a basic practice of the violin. People who have not yet started jazz are welcome, and those who are already more advanced too.
On 21-22-23, we will be in “intensive course” mode to learn to swing the violin. I will teach my method to help students progress in jazz. We will be regularly accompanied by guitarist Rodrigue Vera Ortiz during our work, which will be a great luxury! Indeed, there’s nothing like practicing while being accompanied by a musician. In addition, it will help me to separate the groups in case of too great differences in levels and will also make some of you work.
On the 24th, we will have the opportunity to perform a duo concert with guitarist Rodrigue Vera Ortiz, and we will invite students who wish to share the stage with us. There will also be a behind-the-scenes concert in-between the student performances.
We will be hosted and fed by the organizer VIOLONIS, which will allow us to focus exclusively on our work!
Here is the link to the VIOLONIS website to register for the course! I will look forward to seeing you there!
