Here is an etude on the tune « I can’t give you anything but love ». This etude comes from my method « The new way to learn jazz violin ».

It is like a solo already transcribed!

This is actually an improvisation that I did on the spot while trying to apply the elements of my method. To make it more accessible, I tried to play simple phrases. I then transcribed the etude in the form of sheet music, adding the bow strokes and fingerings I play, as well as the ornaments.

Below, you can download the etude’s sheet music, so you can practice it directly with the sheet music and the video. It also shows you how my method works, which includes videos and sheet music and PDFs.

This etude is part of the nine final etudes of my method: if you follow it gradually, you will eventually start to improvise as I do in this etude!
In the meantime, you can already start practicing this one, to see where you are.

Listen to the solo first

Remember to always practice on the etude by listening to the video to train your ear and be as close as possible to my phrasing. The idea is really to try to imitate rhythmic placement and subtleties in sound and accents.

Ideally, start by picking up the solo by ear only, then checking with the sheet music that you have the correct notes. I know it is not easy and you will be tempted to read the sheet music first, which is normal. But if you do, listen to the video first and listen to it regularly while you learn the sheet music!
